John Parker, CEO of Guy Parker’s Old Fashioned Bar-B-Q Sauce and Marinade, recently received recognition for his family operating the first 'integrated restaurant' in the Carolina region 50 years ago.The State of North Carolina's Natural History and African American and Community History accepted artifacts from John Parker and his mother on behalf of the company Guy Parkers BBQ Sauce.
Today, Guy Parkers BBQ Sauce is going strong retailing throughout the state of North Carolina in numerous Meat House locations, Harris Teeters , IGAs, Piggly Wigglys, and A Southern Season.
The recognition was made possible with support from the City of Goldsboro. The city council sent a letter to John and him mom recognizing Guy Parkers BBQ Sauce on their 50th Anniversary and included a note recognizing the company for providing service from the beginning where “people of different race, creed, and color could come together and dine as equals.”
Guy Parkers BBQ Sauce also enlisted the assistance of international food industry expert Tim Forrest to assist with the company’s marketing effort. http://www.timforrest.com

Background:
On August 12, 1962 Guy Parker's BBQ opened and became Goldsboro, North Carolina's first integrated restaurant serving a full lunch and dinner menu. Offering home-style plates such as pit cooked BBQ, BBQ chicken, fried chicken, shrimp, oysters, fish, hamburger steaks, chicken livers, gizzards, seafood platters and an assortment of different sandwiches. Guy Parker created his own sauce for his pit cooked BBQ and tender BBQ chicken which is the genesis and ‘Secret’ receipe behind the Guy Parkers BBQ Sauce.
