When people think of home security, most of them automatically think of a home security system. The reason for this is because home security systems are usually the cornerstone of any comprehensive home security plan. They are typically the first component that is installed in a home and is used as a starting point for the installation of other security components as the need arises. Most burglars are not foolish enough to bother a home that has a security system installed. Even if one does attempt to break into a house that is protected by an alarm system, he is going to find it much more difficult to be successful than he would with a home that isn’t.
However, in order for a home security system to be as effective as possible, it needs to be used in the right way. First, it needs to be installed correctly and maintained properly on a regular basis. You cannot expect an alarm system to be left alone for several years and then suddenly work the way it is supposed to when you need it. You need to test it periodically and if anything seems to be malfunctioning, it should be serviced immediately.
Next, you need to make sure your alarm system is always activated when you leave or when you go to bed at night. If you don’t turn it on, it is doing absolutely no good to anyone. The monitoring company responsible for responding to a siren cannot respond if the siren doesn’t go off. Your neighbor won’t be able to hear the siren if it isn’t sounding. A lot of homeowners are very diligent about turning their alarms on for the first few months of getting it installed, but then it becomes easier to leave it turned off, thereby making themselves more of a target.
One of the key components of an alarm system is the signs and stickers that come with it. Make sure you post these items at various conspicuous points around your yard and home. You want to make them visible enough for anyone who is thinking about breaking into your house to see them and think twice about doing it. These stickers are amazing deterrents, and in fact, it has been proven that posting these signs can be enough to keep burglars away even if there is no alarm system installed to back them up.
If you are thinking of getting an alarm system installed in your home, it is a good move; however, be sure to follow the advice here to make it as effective as it can possibly be.

When you have been the victim of a burglary, it is perfectly normal for you to be confused and upset the first few moments after you discover someone has broken into your house. Your own private space has been violated and you might not even know what to do next. However, it is critical that you take some important steps as soon as possible after you learn that you have been robbed so that the police have a better chance of catching the perpetrator and recover your belongings.
If you have a home security system installed in your house, the police will already be notified of an alarm by the monitoring service and will be on their way. They might even already be at your home when you arrive, depending on how long after the alarm goes off you return home.
If you do not have a home security system installed and you come home to some signs that your house has been broken into, always assume that the burglar is still inside. Either call the police from your cell phone or go to a neighbor’s house and call them from there. It could be very dangerous for you and your family to enter a property that has been burglarized.
There are many different ways the burglars enter homes, which means there are several different signs you should look for when you return home. They might use sheer force where they kick down a door or break a small door window to reach around and unlock the door. They could also use a glass cutter to enter through a window. One of the most popular ways to break into a house is to simply smash a window and grab whatever they can in the time it takes for the alarm to go off and the police to arrive. They can also use a pry bar to force a door or window open or use a ladder left outside to climb up and enter through a top-floor window.
If you see any of these signs, you very well could be a victim of a burglary. At this point, you should immediately call the police and stay out of the home until an office tells you it is okay for you to go back inside. Let the police do their work and you could possibly recover your belongings and your peace of mind.

If you have ever been the victim of a residential burglary, then you know how difficult the aftermath can be. You are likely experiencing a wide range of emotions such as fear, sadness and anger. You might not know where to begin to get your home back in order or what to do first to try to catch the guy who did it. You probably feel violated and unsafe, and you might feel like you can’t ever stay in your home again. While it is true that being a victim of a burglary is not fun, and could even be temporarily devastating, you must take some actions immediately afterward to increase your chances of getting your life back.
First and foremost, never enter a home that has signs of being burglarized. Is your front door open when you return home? Is a window smashed? Does something just not seem right? Do not go inside. Either call the police from your cell phone or go to a neighbor’s house and call the authorities from there. Most burglaries are committed by amateurs who might panic and do something violent if they are confronted. It is much better to keep yourself safe just in case.
Second, contact your home security system provider to see if your alarm went off and when. If it did go off, chances are the police will already be there since a monitoring service’s goal is to get help to the scene as quickly as possible. If the monitoring service was unable to get a hold of you to confirm an alarm, they will have dispatched emergency services immediately. The police will want to know when the alarm was first detected and, if you have surveillance cameras connected to your home security system, whether or not the recording caught the perpetrator on tape.
Third, you should begin making a list of all the items you know for sure are missing. Typically, if you have been burglarized by an amateur, you will notice missing items immediately. These burglars are usually after small electronics like laptops, game consoles, DVD players and the like. If you have been hit by a professional, you will probably have to look a little harder for missing items, since they were likely looking for something in particular, such as jewelry or artwork.
Once you have your list, give it to the police and cooperate with them in every way possible. They need your help to solve the crime. Provide them with any small detail you can think of, even if you aren’t sure it has any relevance to your case. Sometimes, the most insignificant detail is what eventually breaks the case wide open.

Tucked away down a lane in the village of Titchfield near Fareham, it’s easy to miss the pink sign reading Tinkerbell Creations. Go past it and you enter what seems like a normal doll shop, with collectables in glass cabinets, dolls propped up on stands and pretty dresses in the corner.
But then you see the ‘nursery’, a separate section where ‘reborn’ dolls are displayed. Lying in their own cots and prams, they look amazingly realistic.
There are tiny veins in their skin, they have downy hair on their heads and they c...
